Overview: Honda Civic Hatchback

All the Civic's virtues, plus 25 cu ft of cargo.

For buyers who want Civic reliability and ride quality but need to haul more gear, the Civic Hatchback is the answer. With 24.5 cu ft behind the rear seats — more than many compact SUVs — and rear seats that fold flat to expand cargo to over 70 cu ft, the hatchback transforms a small sedan into a versatile daily driver. The Sport Touring trim adds a tasteful body kit and 18-inch wheels for a sportier look without sacrificing comfort.

How It Compares to Competitors

The Civic Hatchback's main rival is the Mazda 3 Hatchback. Mazda offers a more premium interior, but Honda counters with more cargo space, better fuel economy, and a more usable rear seat. The Volkswagen Golf is no longer sold in America, leaving the Civic Hatchback essentially the default choice for compact-hatch buyers.

Expert Review

The Civic Hatchback is one of the smartest 'in-between' purchases in the industry — it's nearly as efficient as the sedan, nearly as cargo-capable as a small SUV, and arguably better-looking than either. The Sport Touring with the manual is one of our favorite affordable cars, period.
