How It Compares to Competitors

Compared to the Toyota Corolla, the Civic offers a more refined ride and notably more interior space. Versus the Mazda 3, it gives up some driving sophistication but wins on rear-seat room, fuel economy, and resale value. The Hyundai Elantra undercuts the Civic on price but can't match Honda's long-term reliability scores.

Expert Review

After 1,200 miles in our long-term Civic Touring, we're convinced this is still the smartest compact sedan purchase. The 2.0L makes the right kind of engine note when you push it, the cabin is hushed at 75 mph, and average fuel economy of 36 MPG matched the EPA estimate. The only nitpick: the CVT could shift more decisively under hard throttle.
